Yugioh: 2022 Tin of the Pharaoh’s Gods

YuGiOh 2022 Tin Of The Pharaoh’s Gods… “THAT’s the Pharaoh?! But that’s Yugi!”. Technically, the person depicted on The Tablet of Lost Memories was not Yugi. In fact, as all Yu-Gi-Oh! fans know, the stone shown to Seto by Ishizu was an Ancient Egyptian Tablet built by the Priest Seto as symbol of his friendship with Pharaoh Atem.

Considering that the Tablet is a core item in the series, it does not surprise that Konami decided to use it for a series of commemorative tins. The series started in 2020 with the release of the first set called “Tin of Lost Memories” and it was followed in 2021 by “Tin of Ancient Battles”. What makes things interesting is that each of these tins shows a third of the Tablet on its lid so that all the three yearly boxes can be linked together to form a copy of the Table of Lost Memories.

We are now in 2022 and Konami has finally released the third and final piece of these commemorative boxes: the “Tin of the Pharaoh’s Gods”. This is not only the last set of the series and the last piece to put together the Tablet but it is an amazing product for all Yu-Gi-Oh players. Let’s take a better look and let’s see if you agree with me.

Right Out Of The Tin

First of all, the Tin of the Pharaoh’s Gods is a nicely designed storage box. The lid of the 2022 tin depicts the top section of the Tablet of Lost Memories, immortalizing Slifer the Sky Dragon, Obelisk the Tormentor, and The Winged Dragon of Ra. Personal choice of course but among the three sets, this is the one I like the most from a pure aesthetic point of view.

As per the two previous tins, the lid fits flush with the tin body allowing multiple tins to be stacked on top of each other to build the entire tablet. An embossed millennium puzzle on one of the longer sides fits perfectly into its de-bossed twin on the other side improving the stability of the stacked boxes. One important lesson I learned: if the two millennium puzzles do not fit into each other, change the orientation one of the lids… I was too excited when I tried to stack the tins the first time to realize it by myself.

Once opened, each Tin of the Pharaoh’s Gods will contain 3 extra-large Mega-Packs. Each of these mega-packs is wrapped in a shiny gold foil and contain 18 cards each. In total, each 2022 tin will provide you with 54 cards: 3 Prismatic Secret Rare, 6 Ultra Rare, 6 Super Rare, 3 Rare, and 36 Commons. Rare to common ratio in this set is definitely good.

Rare Cards To Look After

As per the previous 2 years tins, the card list of the 2022 set features reprints from different sets released the year before. In this case, we are looking to some great 2021 sets including Blazing Vortex, Lightning Overdrive, Dawn of Majesty, and Burst of Destiny. There are also some cards picked for older sets bringing the list of cards featured in this collection to 275!

The full list of cards includes 22 Prismatic Secret-Rare, 45 Ultra-Rare, 30 Super rare, 45 Rare and 133 Commons. Most of the cards are re-prints as usual although the set includes 7 new cards and 3 cards with a new artwork. The new cards of this set are “Duel Tower”, “Rainbow Bridge of Salvation”, “Link into the VRAINS!”, “Soul Energy MAX!!!”, “The Revived Sky God”, “The Breaking Ruin God” and “The True Sun God”.

In addition, “Blue-Eyes White Dragon”, “Red-Eyes Black Dragon” and “Dark Magician Girl” are featured here with a new artwork. Among all the cards of this set I was really hoping to pull Dark Magician Girl but so far she has been eluding me; I was still lucky enough to pull a Red-Eyes Black Dragon on the first tin I opened thus I cannot complain.

Looking in detail to the list of all the Tin of the Pharaoh’s Gods card featured in this set, three cards of them stands out for me:

• Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon (Fusion Monster lv8) is easily one of the most useful monsters to add to a deck based on Dark Magician. He has very respectable 3000 ATK and two very good effects. With the first one, he can destroy a number of monsters equal to the number of normal monsters used to summon it and subtract their ATK from the opponent life points. The second one allows a player to negate an effect by discarding a card. Oh, and if you do so, this monster gains 1000 ATK….
• Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring (Effect Monster lv3) is unanimously considered one of the best cards to have in your deck and its market value clearly shows it. As a monster, this card is not very useful but players could discard it to negate any card that has “Add a card from the Deck to the hand” or “Special Summon from the Deck” or “Send a card from the Deck to the GY” as effect.
• Lightning Storm (Normal spell card) allows you to destroy all Attack Position monsters or all Spells and Traps your opponent controls as far as you do not have face-up cards.
• All of the above are awesome cards that could be easily added to any tournament deck. One very important point to flag: all the three above are among the 22 Prismatic Secret-Rare featured in this set and as you always get one for every Mega-Pack, you actually have a decent 13% chance to get one of them every time you open a tin.

Final Thoughts

The 2022 Tin of the Pharaoh’s Gods is a very big hit. All the single Secret-Rare, Ultra-Rare and Super rare cards are quite strong and the overall collection features a very good selection of useful cards. In addition to a great selection of cards, the tin itself looks great as a storage solution for your cards and decks and, considering the price, this is definitely a product that would be worth buying.
